Ideas for "Cute Country" Themed Out Door Wedding?

I'm trying to help a young couple on a tight budget plan for an outdoor mid-July Texas wedding (sweating already). It will have a country theme. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The bride could wear a white sun dress, with the brides maids in colored ones. The flowers could be daisies. The groom and best man and ushers could wear black jeans, white western shirts and hats and bolo ties. You could use square hay bales as seating. Muslin strips tied in bows (old sheets, maybe) to trim trees/fences, tables covered in brown paper with bandana print napkins. My cousin had this type of country wedding, and the reception was a cook out with salads, baked beans, hot dogs and burgers. It was in the groom's parents" back yard, and was in central New York in August. Very memorable and enjoyable.

22 years ago we had our own small country Texas wedding on a tight budget. I wore my moms dress after a few alterations, had my relatives bring cookies and punch for us, and made our own bouquets. In the spring we found wild growing grapevine, cut long lengths and soaked it in a galvanized tub of water to soften. Then we wound it into wreaths and tied each one win a little wire. Then decorated them with silk flowers. Each bridesmaid carried one as a bouquet and we also used them as pew decorations. We had BBQ, beans and brownies at my parents backyard after the light reception at the church. Everything was simple and sweet and we got lots of compliments for not spending a ton of money we didn't have.

If the wedding will be in somebody's yard, you could buy several yards of tulle fabric or even nylon net, tulle is the fabric that bridal veils are made out of, and tie huge bows around the trunks of trees. Or for a more country look use cheese cloth. All of these are really inexpensive. You could tie a silk flower in each bow. If they are going to have a tent you could use fans in the tent for cooling. Just be careful about running cords. orientaltrainingcompany.com has lots of inexpensive items for all occasions. For food you could go with either sloppy joes, salads, chips, etc. or have some people bring grills and have some of the men, man them grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, then have salads, etc. You might even know somebody that could make a cute country looking wedding cake. For the brides flowers, gerber daiseys are quite large and colorful and just a few would make a good show. She could carry one in her choice of color with a big bow that has long streamers on it, or she could carry a spray of three with the large bow.

Also if you have a David's Bridal anwhere in your area, and even online they have a fair selection of $99.00 gowns of all lengths, including knee length. Sometimes you can even find gowns in thrift sstoes, and some of them still have the tags on them.

I helped with one in Tucson. We did bales of hay, kerchiefs from Oriental Trading Company, and had bandana table clothes in red and blues. We did thrift store mugs, tin cups and saucers, with a dinner bell and spurs for decorations. You have a little time, so I hope this helps. Have fun!

I have an idea for centerpieces I made for my daughter's wedding. Using a glue that works on glass, glue the bottoms of two rose-bowls together. After they dry, stand upright and glue a clear votive holder inside the top one. Make a shade out of gingham or calico by cutting a length of fabric about 2 1/2 or 3 times the circumference of the bowl and about 6 inches deep. Hem one long raw edge. Create a casing on the other edge big enough to run a 1/8 or 1/4 inch wide ribbon through. Join the two raw short edges and sew almost all the way to the top. Insert the ribbon (cut long enough to go around the top of the rose bowl and tie into a bow with about 3 or 4 inch tails) into the casing, gather casing and tie onto top rim of rosebowl. Add a votive candle and you have a cute country centerpiece. I used black net instead of the gingham for my daughter's wedding which was not country, but the person who gave me the idea had used it for a country theme. You might want to play with the amount of fabric you use for the shade, depending on how much fullness you want. (07/18/2010)

Serve lemonade in bottles, use brown kraft paper to cover the tables with and candles wrapped in lavender and twine. Use old doilies and white handkerchiefs for table decorations. Guests can write down good wishes on the paper tablecloths. Use canning jars for table bouquets, An arbor with vines and tulle bows would add some romance along with a photo session for every guest for a given price, this could be done by a family member with a printer set up right there; nice photo cards to place pictures into would be nice too. Croquet and horse shoe games for the guests and table fans for the ladies. Best wishes. (07/23/2010)
