Ashtrays for Outdoor Weddings?

What is a nice way to deposit them at a backyard wedding? I am thinking coffee cans, but what to write on them?

I suggest filling coffee cans with sand (or colored sand to coordinate with your wedding colors). If you can't find the right colors of sand, you can always buy white craft sand, and color the sand using sidewalk chalk (you can get it for a $1 at the dollar store).

To cover the cans I recommend using spray paint. You could use some pretty stationery paper or scrapbooking paper you can find at the craft storey, but the paper runs the risk of becoming singed if a not quite extinguished cigarette ends up resting on the side of the can. Plus, if you're outside until late into the evening, dew on the grass would absorb into the paper, and then it might ruin the whole effect you're going for with the paper.

My advice though would be to paint the cans in the lighter of the two colors of your wedding colors (i.e. Pink and Brown are you colors, so paint the cans pink). Find a stencil at your local craft store in a letter of your new last name.

Attach the stencil to the can with tape, and make sure that there are no edges sticking up so that the paint can't slip through and ruin the effect you're going for. Alternatively, you could purchase a paint pen, OR a permanent marker in black or the darker color of your wedding colors and trace the stencil onto the can, and then fill it in using the same paint pen, or permanent marker.

For added glitz... and just because I love glitter... you can get spray glitter glue in a can. Spray that all over your finished can.

After the wedding you can give the cans away as parting gifts (with or without the sand), and maybe even use one for yourself as a place to store your pens, pencils, and various "office supplies" at home.

I hope that helps!

You can add white Lacey cloth around them and think of a nice slogan to write on them. I like the idea of adding the sand.
