Provide Your Own Wedding Music

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 519 Posts

Keep in your budget by providing your own music. Pick a list of CD's to accompany the ceremony, before and afterwards, and have someone be a DJ (I got my nephew to do it). We then used our karaoke machine for music for the reception and everyone had a great time!

We used our iPod - we just selected all our favourite tracks into playlists and set them off. Then you just need some speakers and an amp and you're off. Really cheap! If you don't have an iPod, then perhaps a friend will create the playlists on their iPod for you??

I have a lot of friends that have DJ equipment, and always end up doing all our weddings, since were all in our mid-20's now. Always ask friends' teenage kids, they may know how to set up sound equipment so you can use your IPODs or CDs.

An I-Pod wedding?

A really good DJ not only plays music but he/she controls the ebb & flow for the reception by playing the right music at the right time by being able to read a crowds responses and take special requests. Even a professional can't program an I-pod days ahead of time to fit the wants & moods of guests on the spot. What makes you think that you can?

A good DJ coordinates the events of the reception and adds excitement to the event.

A good DJ is also a Master of Ceremonies and directs the guests attention to where it should be.

A good DJ supplies a top quality sound & lighting system and not a home stereo system that might sound good in a 10' x 12' living room and a lighting system that they picked up at Wal-Mart.

There is so much more that a professional DJ can do for a wedding reception. The music portion of a reception is not where you should try to cut back and save a few dollars.
