You could always use pillar type candles with preserved fall leaves that you have gathered as they fell. Scatter in a few silk mums or something.
I was going to say the exact same thing, rehatterb, except I didn't think of the mums. I think this would look great myself. You could wax the leaves or spray with a bit of clear varnish if you wanted a brighter look.
I would focus more on the colors of the season. Gold or rust/red candles of various sizes.
Single flowers (real or silk) in bud vases in seasonal colors. I like the mums idea, too, but at that time of year, real ones would probably cost about the same as silk ones. Spray paint some pumpkins, gourds, seasonal vegetables gold or rust.
Congratulations to your family on this upcoming wedding. Take a drill with an appropriately sized bit and drill into small pumpkins for tapers and larger pumpkins for pillars. Put three of the same sized candles on each tables. You can get inexpensive (post-Thanksgiving) sheer fabric now so that you can make sheer toppers for the tables. Get fairytale (white) pumpkins for the main table and fit them out for the candles. You could put three (or 5) tapers in each of those large fairytale pumpkins. (I am a big fan of battery operated candles as a result of having been in a fire...)
If you are going for flare, get orange, battery operated, rope lights in the post-Halloween sale. twist yellow tule around the lights and attach them to the head table.
Buy cases of mums which you order from the greengrocer at your local grocery store.
I also suggest the use of leis which you can order fairly cheaply from Hawaii. You only need a few for the wedding party and you will make a huge bang for the buck (or whatever currency you are using)
Order round mirrors to go under the centerpieces to add drama. I am always on the look-out for small mirrors at thrift stores so that each table has a slightly different look.
If you get a large number of the tiny pumpkins they can be used for your place cards at the table. Get a large pumpkin and use skewers with the names attached on flags at the top of each skewer. Cute, inexpensive, different.
I would have bought post Thanksgiving picks and used them in an arrangement for each table. They suffice as a greeting to the season as well as a nice centerpiece for a wedding.
Mum plants are usually too tall and really look cheap. If you can work with an autumn color scheme just use pumpkins with autumn leaves placed around the bottom and add some votive candles for sparkle. If the natural pumpkins are not elegant enough try using cheap Walmart gold metallic spray painted pumpkins. Every nuance of texture become very shiny and they look really expensive. The key to a successful paint job is too really shake up the paint well and apply several thin coats.This keeps the finish smooth with no drips and an added benefit is that you can paint the pumpkins well in advance. They last a LONG time when spray painted. Have fun! Remember like a dinner party the magic is the people at the party not the decor or food!
Use 6 " houseplants which are about $5 each. Make a simple pot cover from autumn print fabric or fabric using the colors of th bridal party.
Hi Lynn. My fiance and I are also planning a November wedding.
I am focusing on chocolate brown and ivory (with sage green accents) as my wedding colors. Thus, I'm foregoing the seasonal decor. Here are some centerpieces I like:
1. white/ivory floating candle atop submersed babies breath in a tall, clear, glass cylinder vase (or a unique vase from a thrift store- and vary each table's vase). maybe a small loaf of brown bread (like the kind at Outback) at each table to bring in the brown color and as a snack ;)

4. artichokes as the focal point, or other green leafy veggies like kale and parsley-- just a consideration but I dont plan on doing this
5. rosemary submersed in clear vases with white flower blooms around the base of the vase. white or brown floating candles in water
