I recently went to a lovely wedding where they did a doughnut wall in lieu of a wedding cake. Each guest got to choose their doughnut of choice by pulling it off the wall. I thought it was really cute and fit in perfectly with their laid back reception.
They made their own pallet like board by spacing boards a few inches apart horizontally attached to two vertical boards on each end. They drilled holes about 6 inches apart in the center of each horizontal board and glued dowels into the holes. If I were doing this I would drill the holes at a slight downward angle so that the dowels would poke out in an upward angle. This would be perfect for a potluck wedding, outdoor wedding, or even a laid back beach wedding.
