Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

I have submitted several articles with tips on projects to save money on a wedding. Sure, it's more convenient to hire things done for your wedding, but the money saved can be applied towards a nice honeymoon or the living expenses that come after this day is over.

One way we saved money was to print our own invitations as well as the wedding programs. We purchased card stock paper from Walmart for the programs, and the invitation paper I just happened to come up on at a yard sale. They were even textured with cala lillies. I used a hole punch at the top and tied on a tiny white satin bow. The only drawback I would say,is the ink used, but we were able to do both projects for probably half the price of professionally printed invitations alone.

It gives you a real sense of pride knowing that you did-it-yourself!

To make wedding invitations, just go online and look at different invitations and choose the one you like the most. Then look at what you basically need and make them yourselves, you can get most of the things at a crafts store. Just get your friends and family to give you a hand.

If you don't have a computer to make invitations you could also stamp your invitations. They have complete alphabet letters in craft stores.

For my daughters wedding we decided to make the invitations. First we went to Micheals to shop for invitation kits. They were pretty pricey considering you would have to buy your own ink, however we bought them on a sale week and got them for 1/2 price! They were just what my daughter wanted and went with the theme of the wedding exactly. We purchased 2 boxes each containing 50 invitations, 50 response cards and matching envelopes. The only draw back was that the kit only had outer envelopes.

We got online to find the correct way to address them, so that was not really a problem. We used our own computer and my daughter chose her design from looking at magazines and just pulling from what she liked the best. They turned out beautiful and we could not have been more pleased. The total cost (including new ink) for 100 invitations was $80, a far cry from what we had priced in the bridal magazines. Good luck and have fun!

I made great invitations for my wedding.
We bought the invitations kit from Michaels when they were on sale (I got 100 for 8.99) and they were the plain white cards with envelopes.

I bought some scrapbooking cardstock in a beautiful caribbean blue.

With some sheer ribbon and a hole punch, I had beautiful invitations that many people asked me where I ordered them from...

I made my own wedding invitations. They were really simple - after all you have to replicate whatever you do for each invite - 55 in my case! Try out different designs and whichever you choose, make it simple. You don't want to spend the next 10 weekends making them!

Watch your spelling & line breaks when printing your own invites. Be careful of where you divide lines of text. I once received a do-it-yourself invite that was very amateurish because they didn't do this. It looked like a jumble of words.

Look at samples in the printshop to get an idea of the proper layout. Run a sample of yours by a few people before printing them all. Also, very few people will remember your actual wedding invitation, so keep it classy but SIMPLE!

I'm looking for a pic to put on my invitations, but don't know how to do it. Do you have any ideas?

I used a Gartner Studios kit from Michael's that had a handmade paper base embedded with dried flowers (I had a fall wedding theme) topped with a vellum layer, held together with a ribbon. I changed out the ivory ribbon that came with the set for red, and used monogram stickers from Dollar Tree for envelope seals. The kit also came with RSVP cards and envelopes, but I printed the cards instead as postcards! The front had a fall tree clip art with our names and wedding date, and the back had RSVP info and a stamp to encourage its return. People loved it and wanted to know where I ordered them from!

I made my wedding invitations very cheaply. I purchased some deep purple blank cards and matching envelopes. A friend of mine wrote Wedding Invitation on the front with her calligraphy pen and inside was a fluttering of freeze dried rose petals. I received lots of favorable comments.

If you take a look on the following site you will also find lots of ideas for wedding invites.
