Create a Kids Table at Your Wedding Reception

If you are planning on having "kid tables" at your reception, be sure to substitute kid friendly centerpieces and favors. A basket of crayon flowers and coloring books not only look great but will give the children something to do during those times when it is not appropriate for them to be running around and playing.

Crayon flowers are easy and very inexpensive to make. Snip buds (leaving a stem just slightly shorter than the crayon) from a bouquet of artificial flowers that compliment your color scheme then secure them to the crayons by wrapping floral tape around the stem and the crayon.

You can use store bought coloring books or make your own by printing wedding clip art found for free on the internet. My husband and I chose to make our own; using a three hole punch we put about 15 different coloring pages along with a few blank pieces of paper and a note from us in a folder. We were surprised (and a bit choked up) to find notes and pictures drawn of us left on the tables!

At my son's wedding rehearsal dinner, I designed a children's table adjacent to their parent's table. The table had a kid friendly centerpiece with bubblegum scattered around the parfait flower arrangements made in ice cream parfait glasses with flowers, shredded paper, a straw, plastic spoon and artificial cherry on top of carnation. A paper placemat with a wedding motif on it with the child's name on it was placed at the child's seat. A sandbucket filled with crayons, small books, puzzles, coloring book, small toys were tied on the back if each child's seat with ribbon.

The meal was a buffet so the parents prepared their child's plate and the kids enjoyed playing with their sand bucket favors. The children drew pictures on their placemats and some of them gave the pictures to the bride and groom. The children were also amused with their favors during the meal and the testimonials of the night.
