Write Contract Before Getting Married

When getting married, it is important to talk about every important thing in life; what happens if we split up, what happens if one dies, what are the great wishes of your partner, etc.

Make a contract / written agreement early in your marriage, it will be great in the future!

This is an excellent idea. And if there is a significant amount of money or property involved, a pre-nup is a good idea.

While my husband and I didn't write up a contract, we did take a class through our church called "Total Marriage," and we had to write down our thoughts, feelings, fears, etc., about marriage. This was 45 years ago.

My husband-to-be had been hinting around that our marriage wouldn't be 50/50, but more like 49/51. I told him that if that's the way he felt, I didn't want it.

I think that sort of shocked him.

The first thing the psychologist teaching the course said was "Marriage has got to be 50/50." Of course, through the years we've learned that each of us has to give 100%, and sometimes one will give more and sometimes it's the other, but we always want to do what's best for each other.

There's no "Boss" here (other than the cats). We're Joint Chiefs of Staff.
