Inexpensive Wedding Tips

I have to plan my wedding and fast. I'm getting married on 10.10.10 and I'm on a tight budget. Does any one have any tips on how to keep the wedding cheap?

My first wedding was beautiful, personal, yet thrifty. I ordered my dress from the JCPenny wedding catalog, bought my veil at Belk's on clearance. We got married in my parents back yard. We borrowed folding chairs from the local funeral home (free) rented a beautiful arbor type arch from a local rental warehouse, and also rented fern stands and used my mother's beautiful Boston Ferns to surround the archway. Many beautiful decorations and favors for weddings can be purchased at Dollar Stores now, which is an option we didn't have back in the mid 80's.

We held a very nice reception on the deck of my parent's home. My Mom went to a cake decorating supply company (called the Cake Pantry) and had them bake the layers of the cake, which she brought home and assembled. Beautiful Wedding cakes can also be purchased at supermarket bakeries now. My Aunts prepared the rest of the food including 2 types of punch, fancy finger sandwiches and homemade mints.

My second wedding (2months ago!) We got married at the Magistrate's Office, and my sister-in-law (my best friend for 20 years) took some beautiful photographs. We saved the money for other things that we needed/wanted, and we are very happy in our new home together.

Spend the most money on what is important to you, and you can come up with ways to cut corners and still be lovely all around. Good luck! (03/16/2010)

You can get a lot of wedding decor and favors at dollar tree, my first wedding my husband and I made the bouquet from silk flowers for me and the maid of honor, you can also do this for the centerpieces and for bridesmaids as well, for the groom you can also use silk flowers to make the booteneer. You could have a wedding celebration that looks beautiful and cost less, I went to Michael s for the flowers but any art supply will do, also for gift ideas for the wedding party you could put baskets together with spa like products.

Hobby Lobby puts their wedding stuff on sale very often, just in case you want to do some of those things yourself. Wouldn't hurt to run by and take a look, if only for ideas. Best wishes! (03/16/2010)

Have an early wedding and have a punch and cake reception. You can include nuts, mints, and cookies if you'd like -- or if relatives and friends will help make them. You can also choose a cupcake "cake" instead of a tiered one, and get just a decorated top tier to keep. Having someone make silk flowers will save you a bundle over fresh. If you want to be fancier, include a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit.

If you really want champagne, only get enough for everyone to toast you, and eliminate other alcoholic drinks. If you want music for dancing, get a disc jockey or have a friend do it. And keep decorations to a minimum--maybe vases of balloons at each table or a simple candle. Best wishes. (03/18/2010)

As a silk wedding flower designer and a certified bridal consultant of 10 years here are a couple of suggestions to get the most out of your wedding budget.

1.) Color is king! Use color to your advantage and not only will you stay on budget, but you'll get a high-end look for pennies. Incorporate your color choice into everything you can (aisle runners, flowers, dresses, invitations, place settings, etc) Inexpensive fabrics (like tulle, cotton, and chiffon) along with spray paint, magic can happen.

2.) Cut the Guest List. More guests equals more money. So choose to have only your closets friends and family, then later opt for an informal open house for other colleges, work associates, etc.

3.) Double Up. Look to do double duty on as much as you can. This technique will literal cut your expenses in half and double your money power. For example try to book the same venue for the ceremony and reception. Use the flowers along the aisle as centerpieces on the table. For more flower saving tips check out this article. http://www.bloomedtolast.com/flowerpowersavingsarticle.php

4.) Time is money. Or in this case your time saves you money. Try to do as much DIY wedding projects as possible and rope in family/friends to help. You can do your own flowers, invitations, favors, etc.

5.) Set your priorities. Spend the most money on the items that are most important to you. If that's food, its okay to splurge, you'll just have to cut somewhere else. It's your day and you should be happy with the memories you make, not later to wish you'd spent more on a sweet table.

6.) Wedding Deals are everywhere. Don't overlook unique places to find great deals on wedding gear. From thrift stores, consignment stores, craft stores, estate sales, on-line, discount stores, dollar stores, auctions, garage sales and more. I've seen beautiful dresses at thrift stores for under $100.

7.) Be Creative. Remember that there are really no design rules to weddings these days and anything goes. use this freedom to let your creativity shine through.

I could go on and on with hundreds of more tips. Feel free to contact me directly if you would like more specific ideas I am glad to help. Good luck and continued success in your planning. (03/19/2010)
